Hope of Glory
Colossians 1:27
“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:”
This week on your way to work, take a moment. Buses, cars, transit systems, bicyclist, pedestrians walking on the sidewalks – everywhere, commuters are hurrying trying to make the bell to punch the clock at the start of another day. One thing all of them have in common is the front, image, or persona put forth by all of us. It is what we show, compared to what and who we really are.
When people observe you commuting on your daily journey, what do they see? There is “who we are.” Then there is who we really are. Do people see “Christ in you, the hope of glory?” True enough, life hands us daily disruptions that divert, distract, dissuade, and present detours that bring setbacks, hindrances, and impedances to our daily routines.
When these moments arise, what is it that people see in you? Paul wrote to the church in Galatia in Galatians 4:19, “My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you.” In those moments of adversity, is Christ, the Hope of Glory, being formed in you?
What Paul is saying is there should be something so real about the intimacy that Christ and you share that it births something undeniable in His glory and majesty – so that our lives scream Jesus at all times. Not just at the altar on Sunday, but also in your daily commute, throughout the week, in every moment of every day ending in “Y:” Is your life exuding Jesus? Even when we don’t know anyone is looking or listening, our daily journey is leading others to Christ as He is birthed in us.
Our prayer for you this week: May Christ come alive in you, showing the Hope of Glory to others around you on a daily basis.
