A purpose much greater than ourselves

| Josh Shields

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”   Jeremiah 1:5

School is coming. Lives are changing. Parents everywhere feel as if they are sending their child into the unknown in a world full of change, immorality, and conflicting opinions. The reality is we are. If we allow it, fear can control our every move. In turn, we can unbeknownst to us, stifle the anointing and sanctification that God has placed on our childrens lives.

Our children were set apart, sanctified, and ordained before they were formed in the womb. Think about that. Their purpose started at the beginning when the Lord our God called their name from the foundations of the earth. As Moses, who was called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, David who was called to defeat Goliath, Rahab who was called to hide the men of God, Esther who saved a nation, Paul who shared Jesus with the nations, your child was called for a purpose.

This purpose is greater than anything you can imagine. Its greater than any sports team, academic achievement, or college degree they could attain. Their purpose is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His redeeming blood. Remember that when you send them out on that first day. While athletic and academic accolades are wonderful achievements, they are not our purpose.

On a side note, those are not your purpose either. Careers are great, goals are a must, finances must be stewarded carefully, but your essential purpose in this life is to share the Good News. So, share it with someone today. Tell them about Jesus.

Our prayer for you this week: May you realize as you approach the days ahead, that we are called to fulfill a purpose much greater than ourselves, leading others to salvation in Jesus Christ.
