Caught in A Trap?

| Josh Shields

And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.” Exodus 14:18

Have you ever felt trapped – not just trapped, but made to look like a fool? Your trust, confidence, reliance, dependence, and conviction have fully been vested in the plan at stake, and when you get there, nothing is as you thought it would be. Devastation, disaster, destruction, and desolation seem to be all that is left.

This was the situation as the Israelites found themselves facing the Red Sea. They were helpless, hopeless, destitute, stranded, and abandoned, and the words of Moses were, “Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.”

The late great Elvis Presley described that feeling in his song “Suspicious Minds.” He sang, “We’re caught in a trap/ I can’t walk out.”

Yes. God led them into a trap, but it wasn’t because of their disobedience, nor was it to make an example out of them – rather that the Egyptians might know He was the Lord. If you stop and look at the pattern, every plague was a direct attack on an Egyptian god, and until the crossing of the Red Sea, no one had been convinced.

Has it ever occurred to you that what you think is an attack against you or a trap for you, your business, family, or church was not an attack at all? It was actually an opportunity God saw to show the enemy that He is God and God alone, and beside him there is no God (Isaiah 45:5).

Your escape has already been planned out. The parting of the situation is right around the corner, and in your deliverance, the whole world will know that He is God.

Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize this is not a trap but a witness to the world that He is God.
