Do You Know Him?
“And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” —Luke 2:49 (KJV)
Joseph and Mary had gone to Jerusalem at the time of Passover. Jesus was now 12 years old. After fulfilling the days of the custom of the feast, Jesus tarried behind, and Joseph and Mary knew nothing of it. When they did not find Him in their company, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking Him. After three days they found Him in the temple sitting with the doctors and conversing with them.
Like any mother, I am sure Mary breathed a sigh of relief as she asked, “Why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.” While I know what she meant, Jesus responds, “I must be about my father’s business.” Why did he say this? Colossians 2:8-10 declares the fullness of 1 John 5:7, the Father, Word, and Holy Ghost were in Him reconciling the world unto Himself.
- Some reading this are like Joseph and Mary. You have become separated from Him.
- Others have never yet come to Him and know you need Him.
- How are you seeking Him?
- What are you seeking from Him?
- Why are you seeking Him?
- Where are you seeking for Him?
- And last but not least: When will you seek Him?
Some will never get Him out of the cradle, and others never remove him from the cross. See, the answer to your “what, why, where, and when” are all in the “how” are you seeking Him. Are you seeking Him today as a Risen Savior, glorified and All in All? Or are you seeking Him in a lineup of persons still trying to fulfill something?
Our prayer for you this week: May you come to know Him in the fullness of who He is, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. THE ALMIGHTY! (Revelation 1:8)
