Hear!

| Josh Shields

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. – Deuteronomy 6:4-5

When the scripture says there is nothing new under the sun, it really is true. It seems like the generation of Moses had the same problem we have some 5,000 to 6,000 years later – a problem with hearing. I can see the writer heralding his message as his quill strikes the parchment, “HEAR.” It is as if they are not listening. ATTENTION! ATTENTION! “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.”

What does it take to get folks to listen? How is it that humanity has become so disconnected from everything around it? It amazes me how our world seems to be much like the children of Israel in the wilderness, wandering in circles when the journey really shouldn’t be that long or hard.

Like the writer in Deuteronomy, I want say to our world, “ATTENTION, ATTENTION, HEAR the word of the Lord!” Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

No other person has ever made such a bold declaration.

Matthew 11:28 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Too many of us are walking by our physical sight and perception. Did not His Word say in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight?” and Romans 10:17: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

It is our hearing that is our vision. So, is it any wonder our world is so blind?

Our Prayer for You This Week: May you come to hear the Word of the Lord.
