Is There Anything Too Hard for the Lord?

| Josh Shields
charge the mountain

Genesis 18:14
“Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Like many, I have had the opportunity to view, observe, live in, or travel through the Appalachian, Smoky, Boston, Ouachita, Ozark, and Rocky Mountains. All of these mountain ranges have their own beauty, mystery, and/or level of intimidation.

Each are surrounded with so many things in common, and yet all have their own culture and way of existence. The one question that keeps coming to mind is “How did our forefathers have the courage, tenacity, resilience, and resolve to chase the promise on the other side?” They faced trials of illness, loss of life, disease, and destruction in what was then called “The Savage.” They faced cultures being interrupted and their own mountains of fears—of losing not only life, but also their way of life to people they had never seen before. I am sure many laughed and never chased the promise westward, but there were the few that believed and were willing.

Sarah and Abraham received a promise. Yet they faced a mountain—old age. God gave the promise of a son. Sarah laughed at the promise when she entertained the mountain. Just the thought brings doubt. The Lord begs the question, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” The Promise is reenforced just prior to this. The Lord said I will return at the time of life. There is an appointed time to overtake, charge, traverse, and overcome the mountain.

Today you read this, and like our forefathers, physically or spiritually every generation, culture, and ethnicity have, are, or will face mountains standing between them and their destiny. Don’t allow the shadows cast by the mountains you are facing to block the view of the sun, “Son,” waiting on the other side.

Our prayer for you this week: May you have the strength to charge the mountain and receive the promise on the other side.
