“ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.”
Isaiah 55:3
Have you heard the adage, “The hand is quicker than the eye?” How about, “Everything that glitters is not gold,” or “Never judge silver by sight. Weigh it.” As amazing as the eye is, God never meant for us to be directed by sight.
Genesis 3:5-7 is a discussion between Lucifer and the woman:
- Eat of this tree and your eyes (understanding) shall be opened.
- The woman saw the tree was good for food and pleasant to the eyes.
- … And a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
- The eyes of both were opened and they knew they were naked (exposed).
Paul declared in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” In Romans 10:17, he states, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Too many of us have been affected by what we see, instead of listening to what the word of God has declared. Isaiah said, “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live.”
Sure, we see what appears to be destruction or could it be distraction on every side? The coffee shop, break room, office building, and even church pews are all full of the same verbiage, “Have you seen what is going on around the world in the news?”
Listen to the words of Jesus in Matthew 24:6, “These things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.” In John 14 verses 1 and 27-28, Jesus said “Let not your heart be troubled … Peace I leave with you … I go away, and come again unto you.”
Our prayer for you this week: May we not get distracted by what we see but be encouraged by the word of God.
