The Blood of Christ
Hebrews 9:14 states, “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Before Christ, the high priest had to sacrifice bulls and goats for the forgiveness of sins. Each animal had to be perfect—devoid of defects of any kind—in order to be sacrificed to God.
The same went for Jesus. He was and is the perfect person who God chose to be the sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. The blood of Jesus is central for the redemption of sin. Without Jesus’ shed blood, there is no forgiveness of sin. We can sacrifice all the bulls and goats we want, but it will not save anyone. God’s purpose was to send His only begotten Son to save a lost and dying world.
That is why it is so vital for preachers today to preach the shed blood of Christ. If this isn’t preached, we may as well stay home and watch TV. Jesus’ death on the cross by the shedding of His blood reconciled us back to God the Father. He removed the sin stain from our lives. All we have to do is repent, “turn away from sin,” and ask God to forgive us. We must have faith and believe in Him.
When we turn to God and ask for forgiveness; God no longer sees us as we were, He sees us through the blood which makes us clean in His sight. What a wonderful thing this is to be seen this way. No longer dirty, but to be clean and most of all forgiven. We need to give Him praise and glory for what He has done for us. There is no other way for us to come to God, but through Jesus’ shed blood.
You may say blood is an awful way to be saved, but without blood, none of us could live. It is our lifeline. Jesus’ blood is our lifeline to eternal life with God. Don’t let man tell you that this is awful. Rememger, Jesus is the perfect Lamb of God. There are other ways that Jesus’ blood benefits us. It protects us from the devil and evil powers.
When we pray, we ask God to cover us with the blood of Christ. It is our protection, just as a solid door on our home protects us from the elements. When we truly believe and have accepted Jesus into our lives, His blood is all-powerful. Will bad things still come our way? Yes, but we need to continue to believe and not waiver in our walk with the Lord. Keep our faith strong and face what life sends our way, and we will be victorious in the end.
Christ’s blood justifies us before God, that we may no longer be held accountable for our sins. What a great benefit this is. When we stand before the Lord, He will say, “Well done.” These words have always been good to hear. When we do a good job at work, or get good grades in school, this makes us feel good. But when we hear Jesus say, “Well done,” what a blessing that will be.
Does your conscience ever bother you? Sure it does; it is human for this to happen. But Christ’s blood clears up your conscience of past sins so we can serve God without guilt,. We are no longer guilty of sin because of the blood of Christ. I hope that you are starting to get the picture of what I am telling you about the blood of Christ. Without it, we are all lost. His blood sanctifies us, or sets us apart from this sinful world.
In 1 John 1:7, we read: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” What does that mean? We must continually walk with Jesus and believe in Him, so that God will continually cleanse us from sin. Do we still sin? Yes, we do because we are still in this sinful world.
Once we pass from this life and go to be with the Lord, there is no more need to worry about sin. Are you looking for that blessed day? Another benefit of Christ’s blood is that it opens the way for us to go boldly into the throne room of God and lay our request before Him. Thereby we can receive mercy, grace, and, most importantly, salvation. We are no longer bound by the old covenant because we now have a new covenant, because of Jesus Christ.
The blood of Christ is continually given to us so that we can draw near to God. Have you given your life to Christ? If not, won’t you do so today? All you have to do is simply ask Jesus into your life, asking Him to forgive you of your sins. Once you do, His shed blood will wash away your sins. You then will become a child of God, saved by grace and have eternal life with God in Heaven. Don’t wait; tomorrow may be too late!
