“Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.”
II Samuel 22:8
How many of us can remember standing in our backyard, discussing in a heated manner the size of our father? “My dad is bigger, stronger, and faster than your dad.” Nowadays, a child would almost be locked up for such twisted outlandish thoughts to have confidence in his father’s speed, strength, and size. Humorous how you could almost see your father look for the phone booth to rip off his shirt, as if he was Superman, as you set at the table and told him of the backyard skirmish.
He rises from the table with a cup of brew, goes over to the window, looks across the backyard, and makes his declaration that backs up everything we said in the sandlot incident, “Who did you say your friend was? Your right, they better leave you alone. They don’t ever want to see the likes of me stirred up.” Then you smile as you take another bite of your bologna sandwich; the voice that controls the world you live in says, “No one messes with my child.”
In 2nd Samuel 22, David speaks of how God delivered him out of the hand of his enemies and Saul. As David sings this song, he proclaims it wasn’t me at all. “In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple,” and God said that is enough, and “the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because He was wroth.”
Maybe the reason you are facing distress and have not been delivered, fixed, or your problems solved is you haven’t sat down at the table with your father and communicated what’s going on in the backyard. It’s not that He doesn’t know. It is He is waiting on you too need Him.
Our prayer for you this week: May we come to the realization God is waiting on you to need Him, calling out to Him in our moments of distress.
