Yes!

| Josh Shields

“When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?”

“The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.” John 5:6-7

Jesus comes to the pool of Bethesda where He converses with a man that has been lying there for 38 years. Jesus asks him a simple direct question, “Wilt thou be made whole?” This question should have drawn a simple direct response of, “YES.”

Just like all of us, instead of answering, he begins to make excuses for himself as to why in 38 years he had not gotten closer to the water. He said, “I have no man to help me into the water.”

It’s amazing how predictable the answer was.

Like the man at Bethesda, many of us have gained no ground on what we need to fix. Even though it is our problem, when asked by the master if we want it fixed, changed, rearranged or healed, we immediately go into a dialogue of defense instead of just saying “YES.”

The answer is “YES,” simply “YES. I would be made whole.” Could it be our situation, dilemmas, and circumstances would totally change if we would quit making excuses and simply say “Yes”?

Our prayer for you this week: May you learn to simply say “Yes” to the Master.
